Galveston Bay Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was established in 1987 by a group of citizens who saw a critical need to protect the Bay’s natural resources and balance competing demands on the Bay. Our mission is to preserve and enhance Galveston Bay as a healthy and productive place for future generations. Through six core program areas—Land Conservation & Stewardship, Habitat Restoration & Protection, Water Protection, Environmental Education, Research, and Advocacy—GBF addresses critical challenges including habitat loss, wildlife population declines, urban flooding, and pollution. Galveston Bay is commercially vital to both our region and the nation, ranking as the seventh largest and second most productive estuary in North America. As the population of the Houston-Galveston area continues to multiply, demands on the Bay continue to increase as a result. GBF operates on the principle that individual actions create powerful change, relying heavily on donor support to fund community and science-based programs that address these challenges facing the Bay. These contributions provide the stability needed to continue to develop innovative solutions, engage community members, and ensure Galveston Bay remains a thriving ecosystem for future generations.
